Follow in the footsteps of one of the most famous women of the Middle Ages - Hildegard of Bingen.
Under the motto "Strong Women in the Rheingau - Hildegard of Bingen," there will be a 1.5-hour guided tour with guide Jacqueline Palzer around the Abbey of St. Hildegard. This is explicitly not a hike. The tour starts at 1:30 PM at the Abbey Church. Afterwards, there will be delicious coffee and cake at the Monastery Café (included in the price). Total duration: approx. 2.5 to 3 hours.
Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) is one of the most significant and fascinating personalities of the Middle Ages. She was a visionary, scientist, healer, politician, composer, theologian, and founded two monasteries (Rupertsberg on the Nahe and in Rüdesheim-Eibingen). Many of her writings, especially her knowledge of natural healing, still exist today.
Join guide Jacqueline Palzer on an exploration tour around the Abbey of St. Hildegard, which was built from 1900 to 1904. Following the tour, we will conclude the afternoon with coffee and cake at the Monastery Café of the Abbey of St. Hildegard. Coffee and cake are included in the price of the tour.
The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and will be conducted in German. The meeting point is in the small park in front of the Abbey Church. A short walking trail will make stops at many stations. Appropriate footwear and weather-adapted clothing should be considered for the short walk. The tour takes place in any weather. Afterwards, coffee and cake will be served at the Monastery Café (duration approx. 1 hour).
The Monastery Café
The tour ends with coffee and cake at the Monastery Café. The Monastery Café has been an inclusion enterprise of the Abbey of St. Hildegard since 2020. End around 4:30 PM.
Before or after the tour, a visit to the monastery shop is also worthwhile, which will be open from March 1st on Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
