You hardly cycle so close to the great river anywhere else. On the cycle path opened in July 2023 between Rüdesheim and Lorch, you move almost above the Rhine. Due to the narrowness of the valley, the cycle path was built like a longitudinal balcony on cantilever arms over the river. Thus, you cycle parallel to the excursion ships chugging up and downstream on the Rhine, with island following island in between, and vineyards cover the steep slopes on both sides of the valley.

Once in Lorch, a rest is worthwhile in the idyllic wine village with the St. Martin Church and the historic Hilchenhaus.

On the ferry, you can feel the wind on your face. The return is upstream on the opposite side of the Rhine. In Bingen, the Rhine hopping continues. Before the valley widens, the ferry takes you back to Rüdesheim.
