Since December 2010, new trains run hourly on RMV line 10. They have toilets, air conditioning, sockets and a large multipurpose area. This stage starts in the Rheingau community known especially for its red wines, Assmannshausen. Initially, the Rheinsteig® leads through the charming vineyard landscape of the sunny Rheingau, numerous views back to the Binger Loch or ahead to the left-Rhine castles Rheinstein and Reichenstein spoil the hiker. The path runs through diverse landscapes and gains additional attractiveness through these changes. So this stage offers something for everyone, and by the time you reach the highest point at the Paul Claus Hut, the climbs of the first third are already forgotten. A cultural highlight at the end of the hike is the charming town of Lorch am Rhein with its Gothic church. Wine taverns and vintner's inns invite you to stop for a meal.
Unser Tipp
Interesting along the wayLorch belonged to the territory of the Free State "Flaschenhals." From 1919 to 1923 this was the no-man's land between the bridgeheads of the French in Mainz and the Americans in Koblenz.
