On the banks of the Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site

You hardly ever cycle this close to the big river. On the cycle path between Rüdesheim and Lorch, which opened in July 2023, you are almost above the Rhine. Due to the narrowness of the valley, the cycle path was built on cantilevers above the river as if on an elongated balcony.  You cycle parallel to the excursion boats chugging up and down the Rhine, with island after island in between and vine-covered steep slopes bordering the valley on both sides.Once you arrive in Lorch, it's worth taking a break in the idyllic wine village with St. Martin's Church and the historic Hilchenhaus.You can let the wind blow around your nose on the ferry. Return upstream on the opposite side of the Rhine. The Rhine hopping continues in Bingen. Before the valley widens, the ferry takes you back to Rüdesheim.
