Leisurely stroll anlong the great Germania Route

11/11/2025

Rüdesheim am Rhein
16:00 - 18:00

From the Eibinger Gate to the Niederwalddenkmal

The Niederwalddenkmal has watched over the wine town of Rüdesheim since its inauguration in September 1883. It commemorates the war of the Germans against the French in 1870/71 and the re-establishment of the German Empire. It calls on nations to seek peace.

The ascent to the monument begins at the parking lot Ringmauer. Along the route of the cog railway, which operated from 1884 to 1939, we climb through the vineyards until we reach the forest. Shortly thereafter, the Niederwald plateau is reached. The panorama from here is magnificent.

From now on, it’s all downhill. At the Niederwald Temple, which Count Amor von Ostein completed in 1794, we descend 326 steps into the vineyard landscape of the famous Rüdesheimer Berg. The viewpoint at Ramstein is the last beautiful lookout point. From there, it’s not far to the town.

Those who want to hike need to be prepared for a distance of 5.0 kilometers and an elevation of 230 meters. Participation costs 7 euros per person. Children (up to 16) are free. Registration is not required. The tour takes place in all weather conditions. Info: 06722 / 750508 and www.blum-wolfgang.de.
