Leisurly stroll at the pottery round in Aulhausen

From the Pottery Oven to St. Mary's Church
Aulhausen was mentioned for the first time in 1108 as Ulenhusen (from "olla," Latin for "the pot"). Today, this is commemorated by the pottery oven at the sports field, which was erected in 2008 for the 900th anniversary celebration.
Starting from the parking lot of the sports field, close to the parish church, the route heads gently uphill along the former cow path through the fields of Gaulskopf to the edge of the forest at Kammerforst. This district is among the largest unfragmented forest areas in Germany. It is not far from the sheep farm, which once belonged to the Cistercian convent of Marienhausen.
From there, the pottery route leads to the grounds of the St. Vincenz Foundation, where the 800-year-old St. Mary's Church is located at the end of the Rheingau Monastery Trail. It features a special aspect: the windows and the altar area were designed by artists with disabilities. It is not far back to the starting point, where the tour concludes after two hours.
Those wishing to join the hike should be prepared for approximately 5.0 kilometers of distance and 100 meters of elevation gain. Participation costs 7 euros per person. Children (up to age 16) are free. Registration is not required. The tour takes place in all weather conditions. For more information: 06722 / 750508 and www.blum-wolfgang.de.
